Choose your Corkscrew: Tools for Every Bottle and Occasion

Which corkscrew to use?

Sometimes when I am traveling I arrive at different places without my corkscrew and it is quite an adventure to find the ideal tool.

The one that is easiest to carry and that I recommend the most is the '2-stroke' corkscrew, like the one in the photo. It is the corkscrew that Sommeliers use because it is the most efficient, economical and is also part of the ritual and charm of opening a wine.

The other one I recommend is the 'blade' corkscrew, if the bottle is of an old wine and whose cork can be damaged when extracting it. This corkscrew is the only one that allows you to remove the cork without damaging it, although it requires some practice and patience to remove it.

However, here are some others that can be used and that can help us depending on the moment in which we want to open a wine:

*T-shaped corkscrew: It is the simplest of all, but is rarely used because it requires a certain amount of strength and skill to remove the cork.

*Wing corkscrew: is very simple to use with its 2 wings and is the most common at domestic level, but more and more we find in the houses the lever model.

*Lever corkscrew: It is ideal for beginners because it allows the cork to be removed without damaging it. It has become very popular because it is economical, foldable and easy to store.

*Electric corkscrew: It is the best option for people with hand mobility difficulties, as the cork is removed at the touch of a button.

*Wall-mounted corkscrew: It is mainly used in restaurants, as it requires a large space for its installation. It is fast and easy to operate.

Before finishing, I would like to mention the Coravin system, do you know it? It is a good alternative to uncorking a good bottle if you want to drink a single glass, this is a good option and you don't need to uncork!
