Wine Cellaring and Preservation: Keys to Optimal Longevity

How is wine properly preserved?

- Light is the enemy of wine, so it should not be stored in a very bright place or exposed directly to the sun.

- The space where wines are stored should have good ventilation. They should not be placed near chemical products or foods with strong aromas, since they penetrate through the cork and can alter the aroma of the wine.

- The wine should be kept in a place with a constant temperature between 5oC and 18oC maximum.

- The humidity level of a wine cellar should be between 75 and 80% to prevent the cork from drying out.

- To avoid such dryness, the cork must be in permanent contact with the wine and must therefore be stored in a horizontal position.

- Vibrations affect wine, so bottles should remain in the same place. Moving it from one place to another should be avoided and ideally it should be kept on fixed shelves or racks with little circulation.
